NBA Playoffs: Nuggets edge out Timberwolves in Game 5 to take 3-2 series lead

Nikola Jokic's 40 points lead Nuggets to 112-97 victory

The Denver Nuggets have taken a 3-2 lead in their Western Conference semi-final series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, after a hard-fought 112-97 victory in Game 5 on May 14. Nikola Jokic was the star of the show for the Nuggets, scoring 40 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in a dominant performance.

Nuggets' dominance in the paint

The Nuggets' victory was built on their dominance in the paint. Jokic was unstoppable down low, scoring at will against the Timberwolves' frontcourt. The Nuggets also outrebounded the Timberwolves 52-33, giving them a significant advantage in second-chance opportunities.

Timberwolves' shooting struggles

The Timberwolves struggled to find their rhythm on offense, shooting just 40% from the field. Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 25 points, but he was inefficient, shooting just 9-of-26 from the field. D'Angelo Russell also struggled, scoring just 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting.

Nuggets' defense shines

The Nuggets' defense was also impressive in Game 5. They held the Timberwolves to just 97 points, and they forced 14 turnovers. The Nuggets' defense was particularly effective in the fourth quarter, holding the Timberwolves to just 15 points.

The Nuggets will now head back to Denver for Game 6 on May 16. The Timberwolves will need to find a way to improve their shooting and their defense if they want to avoid elimination.
